gay marriage, christian hypocrisy, and Prop 8
SisterSunnshine comments on gay marriage, the hypocrisy of the so-called Christian community and the funding of proposition 8 in California. How can Christians (so-called) possibly claim the “higher ground” on a moral standard when at least 50% of them can’t manage to stay married themselves? Why don’t we see campaigns to limit the availability of divorce? If we really valued marriage wouldn’t we make it a wee bit harder to get married in the first place? If we really valued family wouldn’t we make it a lot harder to disintegrate one? Give me a break! Wake up people! I don’t blame non-Christians for rolling their eyes and scoffing! To give such a poor witness of what Christianity is is a SHAME to you! So many people will live their lives in this so-called “Christian nation” and NEVER meet a REAL and TRUE Christian!!!!

Civil unions are …
Civil unions are not equal to marriage. Civil union couples are not given the same rights as married couples.I am gay and I understand not changing marriage, however, I think marriage to me should be left to the church and not state. Make every couple considered civil unions with the same rights as marriage, but make marriage a church issue. Another words I’m saying even people who don’t believe in god get marriage, because the state forces it in order to get marital rights… Out of room.
ok so Seperate, but …
ok so Seperate, but equal (aka civil unions and marriage) is not ok, but seperate church and state is ok? to me that’s hypocrisy, and those 2 go hand and hand, since civil unions are more of a legal/civil sense and marriage has always been a religous based ceremony/contract throughout history. So if church and state remain seperate so should civil unions and traditional marriages.
Sistersunshine, if …
Sistersunshine, if we looked in your backyard I’m sure we would find hypocrisy too!
Don’t know what you …
Don’t know what you been reading but you are wrong. The bible doesn’t say anything about lack of hospitality. Genesis 19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. (Know in the bible meant sexual relations in case you missed it.) “Sodomy” is the sin of men with men and this is why God called “gay” people sodomites in 1 and 2nd Kings. And all Jewish kings killed them. It is abomination to God.
Um no, Sodom was …
Um no, Sodom was hit for many faults and sins including things like lack of hospitality. Homosexuality was only one of the sins there that was given credit, so why does the sin of homosexuality get that honor?
Love your video …
Love your video SIster Sunshine.
You idiot. How do …
You idiot. How do you rectify the fact if you are a Christian that the God of the Bible told his people to KILL all sodomites. Not only that but He burnt Sodom up because they were “Gay”?
Five stars from …
Five stars from Puerto Rico. Well done!
So like I said, …
So like I said, same-sex couples who had won/earned the right to marry in the state of California were the first group of Americans to ever loose a right that they had held for 8 months prior to Prop 8.
And buddy, homosexuality is just as normal as heterosexuality. So says every credible psychologist and sociologist in western society.
I didn’t forget …
I didn’t forget about slavery because the blacks didn’t ever loose their American constitutional rights because they never had them to begin with, not until they fought for them in the civil rights movement. Native Americans didn’t loose their rights either because you’re referring to a time before the Constitution was rectified. Same-sex couples were given the right to marry in the state of California, and then 8 months later it was taken from them…
I loved it. 5 Stars
I loved it. 5 Stars
@ApostateJay “the …
@ApostateJay “the first time in american history were peoples human rights were taken away”
That’s funny i guess you forgot about all that slavery and jim crow stuff, and you forgot about the native americans and the right to their heritage, that was taken away by the “civilized white man” gays have a sexual preference, that the only diff between them and normal humans.
I’m glad someone …
I’m glad someone else recognizes the hypocrisy here. How about the people who say gay people shouldn’t be allowed to adopt because they’re living in sin? Do they want to stop divorced and re-married individuals from adopting too, because they’re living in sin just as much as a gay couple, if not more so.
Christians need to realize that there are things they can be morally opposed to that should still be legal. Lying, coveting, and disobeying parents are sins, but not illegal.
Same-sex marriages …
Same-sex marriages in California was legal, but Prop 8 took homosexual marriage rights away, which is the first time in American history where where people’s human rights were taken away. If you ask me, that’s very unAmerican, and not Constitutional. How would you like it if one day you woke up to find that your marriage, or, your parent’s marriage was annulled without their consent, just because bigots were made uncomfortable by your marriage, or your parent’s marriage? Is that acceptable?
…So, re-defining …
…So, re-defining marriage to include homosexual couples is NOT FOR YOU OR ANYONE ELSE, it’s for gays and lesbian couples.
What is wrong with …
What is wrong with redefining marriage? It was “redefined” already once before in the States when interracial marriage stopped being illegal, which if you ask me didn’t affect anyone except those interracial couples that wanted to get married. And changing the law for homosexuals who wish to get married won’t affect you straight people either. The world didn’t come to an end here in Canada when same-sex marriages was recognized as equal to straight marriages. I predict the same in the U.S….
therefore, Same sex …
therefore, Same sex couples do not have a SPECIAL right to redefine marriage for everybody else; the “will of the people” have a FUNDAMENTAL right under the tenth amendment to do such a task in our democratic republic. in Baker v. nelson, a federal judge , in a case called citizens for equal protection, said that citizens do have a right to vote on rights just as long as they are NEW right , such as gay marriage
so Prop 8 was perfectly legal and it AFFIRMED our constitution with flying colors
Actually, you have …
Actually, you have your facts wrong. Prop 8 did not take away any civil right that exist
if you Go to Wikipedia and type in Baker v. Nelson, The case will show you that the same court in Loving v Virginia not only distinguished same sex marriage from interracial marriage, but established it as a right that does not exist under the constitution and never did. those judges new it not violate the constitution but still created a right out of existence
If more christians …
If more christians were like you, the religion wouldn’t have a bad rap. I’ve been asking those who oppose gay marriage, why aren’t they jumping on the ballet to fight to get divorce banned on their state. None will give me an answer. I do point out that jesus NEVER mentioned gays but had lots to say about divorce. Thank you for being educated. Its a breath of fresh air!
Gay couples have …
Gay couples have been getting married throughout the entire country since July 20th, 2005 making Canada the fourth country in the world to recognize same-sex marriage . So it’s been going on for nearly four and a half years now.
@ApostateJay, how …
@ApostateJay, how long has same sex marriage been legal in all of Canada? Long time?
What you wrote …
What you wrote there tells me one thing: America is a backwards country full of bigots.
Well, I thank God …
Well, I thank God that I don’t live in your crappy country then. Here in Canada same-sex marriage is protected and is a constitutional right. As is all our rights. America treats it’s gay people like second class citizens which if you as me goes against the American Constitution which states: “All men are equal.” That there is not up for a vote, but apparently the constitution means nothing in your land. That ht
@ApostateJay (Part …
@ApostateJay (Part 2) Which probably won’t happen for about 20 years or so. If it went before the Supreme Court now, gay marriage will probably not be deemed an unemunerated fundamental right because there’s only about 5 states or so that allow it, which means there’s not enough legislative/executive practice to deem it constitutional. I’m not saying I’m for or against it. I’ve studied constitutional law and know what something like this would take to be considered a constitutional right.
@ApostateJay, how …
@ApostateJay, how was it unconstitutional? For it to be unconstituional you first have to establish that gay marriage is a constitutionally protected right, which it is not. The right to marriage is not an enumerated right in the constitution. Marriage b/n man and woman was deemed an unenumerated right by the US Supreme Court, but the decision did not cover gay marriage. So before you can argue constitutionality, the US Supreme Court must find that gay marriage is a fundamental right.
