What if marriage was taken out of government?
marriage is a religious event, but the gov is treating it like it’s not, and turning a once beautiful thing into a contract that the wife or husband can divorce and ruin the life of the former spouse. And, there would be no gay marriage debate because marriage would not exist according to the government.
And it’s one way to keep the government out of our lives.
I hope you are not a lawyer. Your plan would put a lot them out of business. Sounds good to me.
Do you want religion to handle separation ,divorce, alimony , child support and so on ? Because almost nobody else does

The public policy benefits our society has created for marriage would go away with it.
I don’t agree that the government is the cause of divorce and that is just ridiculous to say. But you’re right about the gay marriage debate going away. They want the benefits our society confers on marriage but they cannot tell us how they benefit our society.

Bobo, even this plan does not put lawyers out of business. A society has to have a civil way of dividing property upon the failure of any kind of partnership (or people kill each other). Children involved requires some protection for the children when the parents separate.
Marriage is a social institution, a contract between two people. That it began as part of a religious institution has no weight in the fact that today it is a social contract not a religious one in nature. Writing began also for the purposes of documenting religious texts, so does that means anyone who is not religious shouldn’t write? Absurd. Also, have you ever proven the existence of your deity? Let’s not even start on that one.
Gays have all the right to marry if they want to. It should be none of your darn business, get a life. I am a straight woman and I do not care who someone else marry, is their business not mine. If you are that insecure to think that if gay marriage was allowed across all boards your spouse will leave you, then your spouse is a closet gay, better accept that.
